Quick Jots: January 2023

California simultaneously in a drought and flood
#california
Following our vacation to Taiwan, we came back to find my wife's car flooded, which was parked in the basement of the hospital she worked at. The one-month-old car was totaled. Insurance thankfully replaced nearly the entire cost of the car, including the taxes and fees. Despite the massive downpour, with the word "atmospheric river" now firmly implanted in our lexicon, California is still in a drought, apparently. If only we had a halfway functioning water infrastructure apparatus that would actually build water storage capabilities over the years.

2016 Russian election interference: bunch of nothing
#democrats #donaldtrump
It's official, I suppose. There was no Russian interference in the 2016 elections. If you did not know this already, come out from under the rock and enjoy some sun. The study showed that only 1 percent of Twitter users saw 70% of the disinformation campaign. Almost all of them were guaranteed to vote GOP no matter what. The remainder were Twitter trollbots. Probably.

DC politicos whine about DC's unaffordability
#democrats
Has there ever, in history, been a more pathetic group of whiners? Even my four-year-old son doesn't whine this much in his entire life compared to what these people do in a single month. These DC Democrats complain that they can't afford rent while being "working class". Working class? You make $178,000 a year to sit in a room and not meaningfully discuss the bills you don't read but vote yes on to oppress the actual working class, you fucking twats. The median US household income is around $69,000 and the median DC household income is shy of $94,000. What a bunch of out-of-touch crybabies. We need to tie Congressional pay to median household income. Otherwise, any Congressperson who calls themselves a "public servant" should be immediately dragged out of office and shipped back to their hometown.

Biden's classified documents
#joebiden
Following the FBI raid on Trump's compound for classified documents, it appears that Joe Biden is also an avid collector of vintage classified documents. The first discovery was actually back a week before the midterms, but shockingly(!!!) the Biden team waited until January, after the midterms were safely over, to disclose the findings, and only after a US attorney started poking around about it. Then it was revealed that he had more in his garage plus some more in an adjacent room. Interesting timing, that these documents only resurfaced six years after Biden had been out of office. One must wonder what exactly is the review process for making sure classified documents don't leave a secured space. Even my local library keeps a better tab on their books. I'm waiting for Biden to call himself "totally irresponsible".

Fusion power
Researchers broke through a barrier, getting closer to achieving nuclear fusion. Obtaining nuclear fusion is a complete game-changer for...everything. Poverty could be completely eradicated if governments step out of the way. Emissions would decline drastically if governments would cease wars. Rare earth mining could slow as solar panels become less beneficial if governments would stop corporate subsidies. The geopolitical landscape would completely shift as countries based on fossil fuel exports would diminish in power...and hopefully, governments don't go to war over this. It seems like this technology is just decades from being commercially available. Just like I was told several decades ago. (no, seriously, it does seem to be progressing)
